Preserving your flowers properly to be a part of your custom keepsake candle is very important. It is recommended to use Silica Gel to dry your flowers and keep its shape for the best presentation in your keepsake candle. Silica gel is a sand-like, porous, absorbent form of silicon dioxide that can draw the moisture out of your flowers. Pick an airtight storage container and fill the bottom of it evenly with a 1.5" layer of the silica gel. Carefully cut all leaves and stems off of each flower that you plan to preserve. Leaves may also be placed in the silica gel and used in your candle. Carefully place each flower upright in the silica gel. Pour more silica gel into the flower, make sure that the gel gets in between the petals. This will help the flowers to keep their shape while drying out. Close the lid to the airtight container. Depending on the amount of flowers and type of flowers they should be dry within 4 to 5 days. Check them periodically for dryness and remove carefully from the silica gel once dried. Remove any remaining silica with a soft-bristled brush.

Meet Dana
Creating unique gifts has always been a passion of mine. Custom candles, hand-sewn pillows, potpourri for shoes, and even toilet seat covers are unique creations I played with over the years. As long as I can remember I have enjoyed making things, and owning a business of my own while creating art, has been a lifelong dream. The journey continued and has now become so much more meaningful than I could have imagined.
In 1995 I married my husband and I wanted to do something with my wedding flowers, so I created a candle. The candle was in a jar. I'm pretty sure there was a fight and I may or may not have tossed it against a tree... I still have the candle and husband!
In 2005 my mother-in-law passed away. I wanted to do something for her children, so I made a candle. Soon after a friend of ours passed away. I wanted to do something for her children, so I made a candle. These candles are heartfelt, and deeply appreciated by their recipients. The more I shared my candles the more I learned that people loved and appreciated what they were and what they represented.

I created my first hydrangea candle in August of 2016. The candle was all hydrangeas and one yellow rose petal that came from my baby brother's, Eric Hensley, funeral. It was created for my brothers John's wedding. In a strange way, it was like Eric was there with them.
I started creating other things, inspired by my love of the ocean and in 2017 Coastal Giving and was born. I Live in Plymouth Massachusetts. Needless to say, I Love the ocean, flowers, creating unique gifts, and my family! I am so thrilled to be a part of special moments and being able to create lasting memories and loving keepsakes for friends, family and you!
Thank you for reading my story!
